United Kingdom Accreditation Board

The United Kingdom Accreditation Board is an independent accreditation body established to operate the accreditation structure and promote quality through its own Memorandum of Association and Rules & Regulations.

UKAB was established in the UK to provide accreditation to deliver on four goals relating to Integrity and Confidence, Trade Support, Linkages, and International Acceptance.

Accreditation facilitates international reputation by way of establishing equivalence and global acceptance of certification, inspection, and testing being undertaken by various conformity assessment bodies in areas of quality, environment, food safety, etc.

UKAB aims at promoting quality by enabling manufacturers and suppliers of goods/services to apply quality standards and tools and simultaneously empowering consumers to demand quality goods/services. The promotion of quality encompasses all segments, including manufacturing, health, education, and public service.

Policy and Objectives

The policy of UK AKKREDITERING BUREAU Limited has the objective of growing the pleasure of all the attracted parties, directly or indirectly, in accreditation actions.

In order to achieve organizational policy, UKAB has well-defined, exact objectives:

  • To be similarly accessible to all the certification body candidates who wish to be accredited to the criteria of the Board within its possibility and ability, within the geographical limits decided by the Board.
  • To improve criteria of accreditation in line with global developments and to adopt developments in the quality of certification procedures with the support of certification bodies.
  • To be impartial in its decision on criteria and procedure of accreditation.
  • To search for mutual acknowledgement of the accreditation schemes globally.
  • To be independent of any undue influence of any stakeholder and to conduct its business professionally.

Integrity

Entire audit activities are operated with maximum adherence to the principles of ethics and professional duties, and they follow shared and well-established processes whereby uncertain explanations of the needs of standards are reduced.

Impartiality

All stakeholders reflect a balanced representation of the main economic, scientific, technical, social, and institutional subjects who have direct or indirect interest in the activities of accreditation and certification.

Transparency

United Kingdom Accreditation Board's rules, which conform to the applicable international standards and guides, are under continuous review by means of mechanisms based on agreement and with the use of working groups in which all interested subjects may participate.

Independence

Accreditation is approved with the assurance that the conformity assessment process is totally free of undue effect. The independence of each member of an audit team is carefully checked.

Competence

United Kingdom Accreditation Board's technical officers and evaluators receive adequate professional training and updating so as to guarantee at all times a high level of performance, including through the maintenance and development of their qualifications.

Market awareness

United Kingdom Accreditation Board is involved in the investigation and increase of new accreditation schemes and in drawing up and going over guidelines for the consistent evaluation of reference standards in order to meet the increasing and diverse demands of the worldwide socio-economic situation.

COMPANY PROFILE

UKAB operates in accordance with the requirements, criteria, rules, and regulations laid down in the following documents:

The requirements of the international standard ISO/IEC 17011, General requirements for bodies providing assessments and accreditation of conformity assessment bodies.

The requirements and other benchmarks as stipulated in the Publicly Available Documents (PAD) published by various international bodies and UKAB.

Legally established objects as per the Memorandum & Articles of Association with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The Board of Directors has overall authority and responsibilities for policies and procedures for the operations of UKAB. The board delegates to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UKAB the responsibility to implement the UKAB policies and procedures.

Accreditation Approval Committees

Make decisions concerning the granting and continuation of accreditation.

Independent Impartiality Committee

Representing the broad range of stakeholders reviews and adjudicates on possible conflicts of interest.

The authority vested in UKAB is that assigned to them by the Conformity Assessment Bodies and other organizations they accredit and recognize by virtue of these applicant and accredited bodies pledging support for the mission and objectives of UKAB and ensuring that their actions are according to that policy.

It is an independent, impartial and non-governmental body and makes no claim to be connected with any government. The UKAB started operating in September 2012.
